Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received on Saturday the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, and current President of the Ministerial Meeting of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, who is on a working visit to Algeria from March 28 to 31, at the invitation of the Minister of State.
This visit also falls within the framework of the Ivorian minister’s participation in the 8th conference of the Algerian Gas Industry Association, scheduled to take place on March 30 and 31.
This meeting comes within the context of exploring ways to strengthen and further develop bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of hydrocarbons and mining, as part of efforts aimed at consolidating African partnerships and enhancing South–South cooperation, especially in the areas of oil and gas industries, as well as the exploitation and processing of mineral resources, the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines said in a statement.
During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed the current state and prospects of cooperation across the various stages of the hydrocarbons value chain, from research and exploration to refining and petrochemicals, including the transport and marketing of petroleum products, as well as training and capacity building. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to elevating bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership based on mutual interests, the statement said.
In this context, the Ivorian minister praised Algeria’s expertise, particularly through the Sonatrach group, expressing his country’s interest in strengthening cooperation with the Ivorian national company “Petroci,” and in exploring possibilities for supplying Côte d’Ivoire with refined petroleum products, as well as developing trade exchanges between the two countries’ enterprises in this field, the statement added.
For his part, Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness to support the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire by sharing its technical and institutional expertise, and by intensifying training and capacity-building programs, particularly through Sonatrach’s specialized training institutes, foremost among them the Algerian Institute of Petroleum.
Regarding the mining sector, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in the areas of exploration, exploitation, and production, as well as the processing of mineral resources, with a focus on exchanging expertise and transferring knowledge, in a way that contributes to the valorization of natural resources and the creation of added value to support economic development in both countries, the statement concluded.
