Algeria and Belgium Discuss Boosting Bilateral Cooperation

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received on Monday the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium, Maxime Prevot, who is on an official visit to Algeria, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

On this occasion, Minister Attaf held one-on-one talks with his Belgian counterpart, followed by an expanded working session with the participation of members of both countries’ delegations, the statement said, adding that these discussions provided an opportunity to review the current state of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and to explore ways to elevate them to higher levels, in line with the vast potential both nations possess.

In this regard, both parties agreed on the need to take concrete steps to inject new momentum into bilateral cooperation, particularly by revitalizing follow-up mechanisms, reviewing the legal framework, and encouraging interaction between business communities in order to seize potential partnership opportunities in economic sectors such as renewable energy, transportation, mining, agri-food industries, and pharmaceutical products, the source said.

At the multilateral level, the two ministers discussed the partnership between Algeria and the European Union, along with joint efforts to promote peace, security, and sustainable development within the Euro-Mediterranean space. They also exchanged views and assessments on a range of current international and regional issues, with particular focus on recent developments in the Palestinian cause, the evolving situation in the Sahel-Saharan region, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, according to the statement.
