Algeria Affirms Its Commitment to Supporting the Efforts of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, received on Tuesday the Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Mohamed Hamel, the Algerian Ministry of Energy said in a statement.

The meeting, attended by senior ministry officials, began with Hamel offering, on behalf of the forum and personally, his heartfelt condolences to Algeria’s leadership, government, and people following the tragic bus accident. He expressed his full solidarity with the victims’ families and extended his best wishes for a swift recovery to those injured, the statement said.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review Algeria’s contributions to the forum’s activities and to strengthen its presence on the international stage. It emphasized the crucial role of the forum in coordinating efforts among member countries and addressing the challenges facing the natural gas sector amid the rapidly evolving global energy landscape.

The two sides also discussed developments and future prospects of the global gas markets, emphasizing the need to intensify consultations and exchange expertise to ensure market stability and support investments capable of meeting the growing demand for this energy, in a way that serves the interests of both producers and consumers, the source said.

In this context, the Minister of State reiterated Algeria’s commitment to continue working alongside the forum’s member countries, advancing efforts toward a just and balanced energy transition, while maintaining the role of natural gas as a key energy source in supporting economic growth and sustainable development.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the forum expressed his satisfaction with the level of cooperation with Algeria, praising its consistent contributions to advancing the forum’s work and strengthening its role as a platform for coordination and consultation among gas-exporting countries. He also noted that the forum continues to attract the interest of several countries, opening the door to potential new members, which would further enhance its position as a leading global platform for coordination and cooperation among gas-exporting nations.

The meeting ended with the Minister of State reaffirming Algeria’s commitment to supporting the forum’s efforts and strengthening its role as an active and responsible country in global energy markets, particularly in the gas sector, the statement concluded.
