The Secretary of State to the Algerian minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, met with the Secretary General of The Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), Christophe Bernasconi, during his participation in the 7th Africa-Europe meeting of court bailiffs, scheduled for 24-25 September in Algiers, the ministry announced Tuesday.
The meeting “provided an opportunity to examine Algeria’s accession process to the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (Apostille Convention), signed in The Hague on October 5, 1961,” said the statement.
During the meeting, the Secretary of State explained that this initiative falls “within the framework of measures taken following instructions from senior authorities to facilitate citizens’ cross-border transactions and simplify the use of public documents outside national territory.”
For his part, Christophe Bernasconi welcomed “Algeria’s process of joining this convention, which is considered one of the most important legal instruments adopted by this international organization and has had a positive and direct impact on individuals’ administrative procedures,” added the statement.
Following the publication of the related presidential decree, Bernasconi expressed “his international organization’s readiness to schedule the deposit of our country’s accession instrument to this convention as soon as possible, so that the convention can enter into force according to its established timelines,” the source noted.
The HCCH Secretary General also welcomed “Algeria’s decision to host the 7th Africa-Europe meeting of bailiffs,” demonstrating “our country’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation in areas under this international organization’s mandate,” the statement concluded.
