Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud clearance operations enter final stage, Syrian Army says

The Syrian army announced on Saturday that the sweeping operations to clear Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in the northern city of Aleppo of mines and remnants of “SDF” group are coming to an end, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.

The Syrian Army’s Operations Command urged civilians in the neighborhood “to remain in their homes and not go outside, due to SDF and PKK terrorist elements hiding in the area,” according to SANA.

Earlier, the Syrian army dismantled dozens of mines in Sheikh Maqsoud streets; paving the way for the entry of internal security forces once sweeping operations concluded, the source said.

Several “SDF” members were arrested, and the army seized heavy and medium weapons, large amounts of ammunition, light arms and explosive devices, the source added.

Separately, U.S. envoy Tom Barrack said in a statement on X posted on Saturday that he had met with Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi in Amman to consolidate a ceasefire and ensure the Kurdish forces’ “peaceful withdrawal from Aleppo.”
