AIPU : Boughali Condemns Former Colonial Powers’ Interference in Internal Affairs of Arab States

The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) and President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Brahim Boughali, strongly condemned ongoing interference by countries with colonial past in the internal affairs of Arab states.
In a statement on behalf of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) published on Tuesday, Boughali described these practices as “a flagrant violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and the rules of international law, which enshrine respect for the sovereignty of states and the principle of non-interference in their internal affairs,” reaffirming “his categorical rejection of these actions that undermine the sovereignty of Arab states and the right to freely determine their political and developmental orientations without external imposition.”
Boughali further stressed that “the Union is closely monitoring with great concern how certain countries with colonial histories are providing shelter to extremist and terrorist groups,” emphasizing that “granting any political, media, or logistical cover to such groups constitutes a flagrant violation of global anti-terrorism obligations and undermines the credibility of international partnerships in this field.” In this respect, he noted that “tolerance toward such groups or their exploitation as political leverage paves the way for severe threats to regional and international peace and security.” The AIPU Speaker recalled that “the parliament called on all states to strictly respect the principle of state sovereignty and to refrain from using human rights questions or democratic slogans as a pretext for interference or the promotion of hostile political agendas.”
