Agreement between Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation to increase gas supplies to China

Russian news agency reported on Tuesday that Russian company Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation have signed an agreement to increase annual gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline as well as through the Far Eastern route.

The signing ceremony took place during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to China, where he is scheduled to attend a military parade marking the end of World War II following Japan’s official surrender.

The Russian news agency quoted Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller as saying that both sides agreed to increase supplies to 44 billion cubic meters per year, up from 38 billion cubic meters per year.

In addition, the two sides agreed to increase gas supplies through the Far Eastern route from 10 billion cubic meters to 12 billion cubic meters.

Miller explained that a legally binding memorandum of understanding was signed for the construction of the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline extending to China, as well as the Soyuz Vostok gas transmission pipeline through Mongolia.
