ALGIERS – African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced the kick-off of the third edition of its short film competition, CANEX Shorts, whose awarding ceremony is scheduled for next September in Algiers, during the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), the largest trade and investment event in Africa.

The competition is meant for African filmmakers aged between 18 and 35 years old, Afreximbank said in a statement, adding that each filmmaker will present one film only, for which he must hold all rights.

The award set at 2000 US dollars for each of the three categories of the competition, namely “Best Fiction,” “Best Documentary” and “Best Animation,” the statement said.

It added that the entered films should have been produced in 2023 or after and can be in any language.

“From all entries, the selection committee will curate a shortlist of 30 films (10 films per category) for submission to the jury that comprises well-respected film experts from across the continent,” it noted.

“The jury will then select a winning film in each of the categories during CANEX at IATF2025.”
