Adrar: First Phase of Algerian-Qatari Milk Project Inaugurated

The construction of the first phase of the integrated Algerian-Qatari project, a collaboration between the National Investment Fund (FNI) and the Qatari company Baladna for powdered milk production, commenced on Tuesday in the municipality of Tamakten, situated in the eastern region of Adrar province.

The kickoff ceremony for this initial phase was attended by Hamid Bensaâd, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Abdulaziz Ali Al-Naama, the Qatari Ambassador to Algeria; Kamel Mansouri, Director General of the FNI; representatives from Baladna; and local officials.

This inaugural phase primarily entails exploratory drilling to evaluate groundwater resources, followed by an analysis of the characteristics of these water sources, as detailed to the delegation present at the site.

During the event, Secretary-General Bensaâd emphasized that “Adrar province, which possesses significant economic potential, is witnessing the launch of one of the largest strategic projects in Algeria’s agricultural sector—the powdered milk production initiative spanning an area of 117,000 hectares.”
