AAPI Elected Head of WAIPA Middle East and North Africa Office

ALGIERS, 21 Oct 2025 – The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) was unanimously elected Tuesday to head the Middle East and North Africa office of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), on the sidelines of the World Investment Conference, the Agency said in a statement, noting that the election “confirms Algeria’s position as an influential actor in the African, Arab, and Mediterranean spheres.”

“This victory reflects the confidence of investment promotion agencies in the region and recognizes Algeria’s pioneering role in developing the investment climate and strengthening regional and international economic cooperation,” the statement added, noting that AAPI submitted its official candidacy for this position in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as part of the official call for applications launched by WAIPA.

According to the communiqué, this achievement aims to “consolidate Algeria’s position as an influential actor in the African, Arab, and Mediterranean spaces, and confirms its role as a proactive force and reliable partner in promoting sustainable investment, digital transformation, and strengthening economic, social, and environmental resilience.”

AAPI’s candidacy, the statement noted, is based on “proven experience in initiatives to develop investment promotion tools, exchange expertise, and strengthen South-South cooperation through regular participation in the Association’s work and activities, including organizing the African Investment Promotion Agencies’ summit on economic integration and competitiveness in Africa, as well as contributing to WAIPA’s Global FDI Masterclass Series by presenting Algeria’s experience in implementing the one-stop shop for investor services.”

The Agency said its election to this post represents “international recognition of the deep transformations Algeria is undergoing in improving the business climate, and reflects the Agency’s commitment to continue its efforts to strengthen the voice of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region within WAIPA, and to actively contribute to the implementation of the Steering Committee’s missions in accordance with Article 17 of the Association’s statutes.”

On this occasion, the Agency reaffirmed its determination to “strengthen coordination among investment promotion agencies in the region, contribute to the development of common positions and unified initiatives in international fora, support emerging agencies, and share experiences to reinforce the region’s position on the global investment map,” underlining its “full readiness to represent the region throughout its mandate, support the strategic objectives of the Association, and strengthen cooperation among its members.”

The World Investment Conference (WIC) will host the WAIPA General Assembly, according to the same source.
