9th European Film Festival in Algeria: Showcasing 18 Films from May 10 to 19

The 9th European Film Festival is set to take place in Algiers, Béjaïa, and Oran from May 10 to 19, featuring 18 films from European Union (EU) member states. This year, countries like Spain, Romania, Italy, Sweden, and Bulgaria will showcase a variety of cinematic works that explore themes such as “family relationships,” “solidarity,” and “climate challenges.”
Screenings will occur at the Algiers Cinematheque and affiliated cinema halls in Béjaïa and Oran, offering a mix of fiction, animation, and documentaries.
At a press conference, the European Union Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Mellado Pascua, noted that the festival is a significant event celebrating the diversity of European cinema.
The lineup includes recent films like “The Trap” by Nadjeda Koseva (Bulgaria), “The Man Without Guilt” by Ivan Gergolet (Slovenia), and “The Right to Happiness” by Claudio Rossi Massimi (Italy), each addressing important social themes.
Additionally, the festival will feature masterclasses led by both European and Algerian filmmakers and producers.
Since its inception in 2009, the festival has aimed to connect the Algerian audience with European cinema and promote intercultural dialogue, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Arts and the National Cinematography Center (CAC).
