39th African Union Assembly concludes in Addis Ababa

The 39th ordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) concluded on Sunday afternoon in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with the participation of Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

During the second and last day of this summit, held under the theme “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” several reports were presented, notably the annual report of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, alongside other reports related to Agenda 2063, the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme, the African Union’s theme for 2025, as well as major continental initiatives led by the African Development Bank.

The AU Assembly also adopted the Algiers Declaration on the crimes of colonialism in Africa, proclaiming 30 November as an “African Day in honor of African martyrs, victims of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, colonialism, and apartheid,” expressing its appreciation to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for this initiative.

Throughout the summit, convened at a pivotal stage in the history of the continent, Algeria reiterated its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and its support for African solutions to African problems, as well as its active contribution to efforts to advance peace and stability and the strengthening of mechanisms for the prevention and resolution of conflicts.

Algeria’s participation falls within the framework of its commitment, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, to promote joint African action and reinforce the dynamics of integration and solidarity among the continent’s states in service of their people’s aspirations for sustainable development, security, and stability.
