Sidati : Western Sahara Conflict Jeopardizes Peace and Security Across Africa

During a press conference, Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Sidati voiced serious concerns about the ongoing Western Sahara conflict, warning that it poses a significant threat to peace and security across the African continent. He emphasized that the United Nations has a crucial obligation to uphold and protect the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, which remains unresolved due to Moroccan actions.

Sidati criticized Morocco for attempting to diminish the role of the United Nations in resolving the conflict, stressing that the international community must assume its responsibility and ensure the Sahrawi people can exercise their right to determine their own future. He underlined that the Western Sahara issue continues to hold a central place on the UN agenda, despite Morocco’s efforts to sideline it.

In addition to these diplomatic concerns, Sidati emphasized that the conflict is not only a regional problem but one that undermines the stability of the entire African continent. He called for more concerted international efforts to address the long-standing dispute.

Sidati also highlighted the clarity of the recent European Court of Justice ruling, which he described as a clear blow to Morocco and a significant setback for the European Union’s stance on the issue. He reminded the global community that this decision aligns with the earlier judgment of the International Court of Justice, reaffirming the legal rights of the Sahrawi people.

Sidati’s remarks reinforced the Sahrawi government’s unwavering commitment to continue their struggle for independence, and he called on the international community to take concrete action to ensure the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
