2026 World Cup (preparation): Guatemala and Uruguay on the schedule for Algeria in Italy (FAF)

Algeria’s national football team will face Guatemala and Uruguay in friendly matches next March in Italy, during a training camp as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup (June 11 – July 19), the Algerian Football Federation announced Friday evening in a statement.
“During this camp, the Greens will first take on Guatemala (94th in the latest FIFA rankings) on Friday, March 27, at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa (8:30 p.m.), while the match against Uruguay (17th in the latest FIFA rankings) will be played on Tuesday, March 31, at the Allianz Stadium in Turin (8:30 p.m.),” the statement said.
These two international tests are part of the national team’s preparation strategy ahead of the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
For their return to the world stage, Algeria will compete in Group J alongside Argentina, Austria, and Jordan.
The national team will open its campaign on June 17 against Argentina in Kansas City (2:00 a.m. Algerian time), before facing Jordan on June 23 in Santa Clara, California (4:00 a.m. Algerian time), and Austria on June 28 in Kansas City (3:00 a.m. Algerian time).
Led by captain Riyad Mahrez, Algeria reached the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations before being eliminated by Nigeria (2–0).
