2026 African Fencing Championships (U-14 / Cadets / Juniors — Day 2): Algeria Wins Three Medals

Algeria’s young national fencing teams claimed three medals (one silver and two bronze) on Tuesday during the second day of the 2026 African Fencing Championships for minimes, cadets and juniors, currently underway in Dakar, Senegal.
The silver medal was won by Malek Abrous in junior boys’ sabre, while the gold medal went to Egyptian fencer Amr Douidar, with his compatriots Adhem Chalabi and Aly Atia taking bronze.
Algeria’s medal haul was further boosted by two bronze medals: Hadjel Lalami in junior girls’ sabre and Siliane Aoudia in junior boys’ foil.
Those results place Algeria third in the provisional medal table after only two days of competition, which runs through Feb. 21. Egypt leads with a dominant tally of 15 medals (5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze), followed by Tunisia with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
According to the organisers’ schedule, Thursday, Feb. 19 will be devoted to junior boys’ foil and junior sabre events for both girls and boys.
Algeria entered the competition with 19 athletes (12 boys and 7 girls), led by coaches Saci Fettache (foil), Hama Antar (sabre) and Zahra Ghamir (épée).
Before the African Championships, Algeria’s junior sabre teams competed at the Sabre World Cup in Dakar, finishing second among boys with one silver and one bronze medal, behind Egypt and ahead of Iran, while the girls’ team earned bronze behind Tunisia and host nation Senegal.
