2024 Declared Deadliest Year for Palestinian Detainees in “Israeli” Jails

Palestinian prisoner institutions have declared 2024 the deadliest year in the history of the Palestinian prisoner movement, citing a surge in deaths and escalating violence against detainees in Zionist prisons.
In a press conference held at the Al-Bireh Cultural Center, Palestinian officials highlighted the severe suffering of prisoners, emphasizing the systemic torture, starvation, medical neglect, and overcrowding in Zionist detention facilities.
Qaddura Fares, head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, stated that “Israel” has been waging a war against detainees since the beginning of the ongoing aggression on Gaza.
He emphasized that the aim of these actions is to punish the Palestinian people by targeting their symbols of resistance, the detainees. According to Fares, 54 Palestinians have died in Zionist custody since the war began, most due to torture or deliberate medical neglect. The abuse faced by detainees from Gaza, he added, is even more intense.
Abdullah Al-Zaghari, head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), presented statistics showing that the Zionist entity has detained at least 25,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2023, with 54 dying in custody, 35 of whom were from Gaza.
He also reported that 450 women and 1,065 children have been detained, with over 700 minors detained since the start of 2024. As the death toll rises, prisoner institutions are calling for international intervention to halt further violations and bring accountability to Zionist actions.
