13 Civilians Killed, 59 Injured in Pakistan’s Shelling of India, Says Indian Government

Tensions remain high along the India-Pakistan border following India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor,” a coordinated military strike targeting nine alleged terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK). The Indian armed forces carried out the operation in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which left 26 civilians dead. The strikes, conducted with advanced precision weapons and real-time intelligence, focused on camps reportedly operated by Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, without engaging Pakistani military installations.

According to Indian defense sources, targets in Bahawalpur and Muridke were hit using SCALP cruise missiles, HAMMER precision-guided bombs, and loitering munitions. The operation involved coordinated efforts by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Meanwhile, Pakistan reportedly responded with artillery fire along the Line of Control (LoC), particularly in the districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor. The Indian Army stated it responded proportionately to the Pakistani fire.

Amid the escalation, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that 13 civilians were killed and 59 injured, including 44 in the Poonch region, as a result of cross-border shelling. The situation remains fluid, with both sides trading accusations over the initiation and scale of hostilities.
