10% of Gaza Journalists Have Been Killed Since October 2023

Palestinian journalists continue to pay a steep price for the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian enclave, as they are deliberately targeted by occupying forces to obstruct coverage of the situation in Gaza. Since October 2023, approximately 10% of these journalists have been killed.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which cites data from the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, nearly 10% of journalists operating in Gaza have been killed since the onset of hostilities. Despite the ongoing prohibition on foreign journalists entering Gaza, the fatalities among Palestinian journalists have reached 174, with an additional 101 sustaining injuries. Furthermore, 30 media professionals have been detained since October 2023.
The union also reported that airstrikes on homes and areas frequented by journalists have resulted in the death of 514 family members of these journalists, with around 115 homes belonging to journalists affected.
In his address at the International Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East, held on November 1 in Geneva, the UN Secretary-General remarked that “the number of journalists killed in Gaza has reached an unprecedented level in modern conflict.” He described the ban on international journalists entering Gaza as “unacceptable,” emphasizing that “the voices of journalists must be protected, and press freedom must be upheld.”
