Algeria–Niger Cooperation Set to Gain New Momentum with Algerian PM Visit

Commissioned by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb arrived on Monday in Niger on an official visit, leading a high-level ministerial delegation, as part of the second session of the Algerian–Nigerien Joint High Commission for Cooperation.
This visit is expected to give new momentum to multidimensional bilateral cooperation, particularly by accelerating the implementation of joint strategic projects with a regional dimension, such as the Trans-Saharan Highway, the fiber optic connectivity project, and the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline project. It will also strengthen partnership in the fields of security and energy, especially hydrocarbons and renewable energies, the Prime Minister’s office said in a statement.
The visit’s agenda also includes expanding areas of cooperation to cover other vital sectors, including finance, agriculture, industry, the pharmaceutical industry, health, infrastructure, higher education, and vocational training. A number of agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed, which would elevate economic and trade relations between the two countries to broader levels, the statement said.
On this occasion, an Algerian–Nigerien business forum will be organized with broad participation from economic stakeholders in both the public and private sectors, with the aim of exploring investment opportunities and strengthening bilateral economic partnerships, the source added.
“This visit takes place within the framework of strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation between the two countries. It represents an opportunity to intensify bilateral political consultations at the highest levels and to consolidate the strategic partnership in a way that serves the goals of regional and continental integration. It also reflects Algeria’s commitment, under the leadership of the President of the Republic Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to reinforcing its role as a key player in supporting the process of African integration, drawing on its historical legacy of championing the continent’s causes and promoting solidarity among its peoples,” the statement read.
According to the Prime Minister’s office, this visit reaffirms the depth and strength of the relations between Algeria and the Republic of Niger, founded on the principles of good neighborliness and solidarity, within a shared will of the two countries’ leaderships to establish a renewed dynamic of cooperation that serves common interests and enhances regional and continental integration.
