50 Years of Sahrawi Republic : The Unwavering Struggle for Independence

The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic will commemorate on Friday the 50th anniversary of the declaration of its founding, in a historic milestone in which the Sahrawi people renew adherence to their legitimate right to self-determination and independence, vowing to continue the struggle against the Moroccan occupation until full sovereignty is achieved, while stressing the need to implement international legality decisions.
The Sahrawi Republic was proclaimed on 27 February 1976 in Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), the day after the last Spanish soldier left Sahrawi territory.
The celebrations of this 50th anniversary also aim to increase the international community’s awareness of the suffering of the Sahrawi people for half a century, in the face of the ongoing aggression of Moroccan regime, which continues its maneuvers aimed at postponing the holding of a self-determination referendum, obstructing any progress toward a just and lasting solution to the conflict.
