Algerian: Terrorist Surrenders, Five Supporters Arrested in a Week

A terrorist surrendered to military authorities in In Guezzam, while units of the People’s National Army (PNA) arrested five individuals supporting terrorist groups in separate operations between 18 and 24 February, the PNA announced Wednesday in an operational report.

The report emphasized that “as part of sustained efforts to combat terrorism and multifaceted organized crime, PNA units and detachments carried out multiple operations resulting in significant outcomes, reflecting the high professionalism, vigilance, and permanent readiness of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory.” As part of counter-terrorism efforts, “a terrorist named H.A., known as Abou Nour El Houda, surrendered to military authorities in In Guezzam in possession of a Kalashnikov submachine gun, ammunition, and other items.

Meanwhile, other PNA detachments arrested five individuals supporting terrorist groups during separate operations across the country.” In the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking, “PNA detachments, in coordination with various security services, arrested 49 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 2 quintals and 89 kilograms of treated cannabis across the borders with Morocco. Additionally, 7.49 kilograms of cocaine and 961,582 psychotropic tablets were seized.” In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet, PNA units arrested 334 individuals and seized 33 vehicles, 150 power generators, and 102 jackhammers, along with quantities of raw gold and equipment used in illegal mining.

During further operations, 21 individuals were arrested and seizures included a submachine gun, a hunting rifle, 147.18 liters of fuel, 366 quintals of tobacco, and 55 tons of food supplies intended for smuggling.

Furthermore, “the Coast Guard foiled illegal immigration attempts along the national coasts, rescuing 254 people aboard artisanal boats, while 280 illegal migrants of various nationalities were arrested across the national territory,” the source added.
