CPJ: 129 Journalists Killed Globally in 2025, Two-Thirds by Zionist Entity in Gaza

A total of 129 journalists and media workers were killed globally in 2025, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), which attributes responsibility to the Zionist entity for two-thirds of these deaths.

“The (Zionist) army has now committed more targeted killings of press members than any other government military to date, with the overwhelming majority of those killed being Palestinian journalists and media workers in Gaza,” the U.S.-based NGO said, as cited by media outlets on Wednesday.

Following 124 deaths in 2024, the 129 fatalities recorded in 2025 mark a second consecutive annual record in the 30 years the CPJ has maintained this count.

Beyond the Zionist aggression in Gaza, which accounted for 86 journalists killed, the CPJ identified Sudan as the next deadliest conflict for the press in 2025, with nine fatalities.

“One of the most striking findings in recent years is the surge in drone strikes,” noted Carlos Martinez, project manager at the “Serna” organization. He documented 39 such cases in 2025, compared to just two in 2023.

Beyond armed conflicts, organised crime also proved particularly lethal for the press. Six journalists were killed in Mexico in 2025, with several cases recorded in India and Peru.

“Journalists are being killed in record numbers at a time when access to information is more important than ever,” lamented Jodie Ginsberg, CEO of the CPJ.
