UNRWA: Protecting Civilians in Gaza, Urgent Humanitarian Priority

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) affirmed that the protection of civilians in the Gaza Strip represents an urgent humanitarian priority amid the deteriorating conditions being witnessed in the Strip, stressing the necessity of ensuring safe and sustained access of humanitarian aid to citizens.
UNRWA said, via its official website, that empowering humanitarian workers and protecting humanitarian facilities and installations constitutes a fundamental condition for the continuation of vital service delivery, including primary healthcare, education services, emergency relief and food assistance for the most vulnerable families.
It also stressed that it continues its operations in the Gaza Strip despite significant challenges, in fulfillment of its United Nations mandate to ensure that support reaches the hundreds of thousands of refugees who rely primarily on its services.
The UN agency called for the provision of a safe environment that allows humanitarian teams to carry out their duties without obstacles, thereby ensuring the protection of civilians and guaranteeing the continued flow of life-saving humanitarian aid to all those in need in the Gaza Strip.
