Indonesia: Hundreds Evacuated After Flooding in Bali

Flooding that affected parts of the Indonesian island of Bali forced hundreds of people, including tourists, to seek shelter, a local disaster management official said Tuesday.
Heavy rainfall has triggered flooding since Monday evening in several districts of Bali as well as in the provincial capital, Denpasar, according to I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya, a senior official at the local disaster management agency.
In Badung district, floodwaters submerged infrastructure such as cafés and a gas station, forcing some tourists to be evacuated by inflatable boats.
According to Gede, around thirty foreign tourists were evacuated on Tuesday due to the flooding. Some took refuge in other hotels or returned to their accommodations.
In total, about 350 people were temporarily displaced as a result of rising waters on Tuesday, he said, adding that most were able to return home once the waters receded.
No fatalities have been reported following the flooding, he specified.
Torrential rains also forced two international flights bound for Bali airport to be diverted earlier Tuesday, while three other departures were delayed, an airport spokesperson said in a statement.
