Nigeria: 33 Killed by Armed Men in Northwest (Police)

At least 33 people were killed when an armed group attacked a district in Nigeria’s Kebbi State in the northwest of the country, police announced Friday.
The Kebbi State police spokesperson, Bashir Usman, said in a statement that the bandits, suspected to be members of Lakurawa, an armed group operating in northern Nigeria, attacked the district of Bui in the Arewa Local Government Area on Wednesday.
According to preliminary investigations cited by Usman, the gunmen stormed the district with the aim of stealing livestock.
The attackers are believed to have entered through the Gudu Local Government Area in neighboring Sokoto State.
Residents from surrounding communities mobilized in response to the invasion, he added, noting that “during the ensuing clash, 33 people lost their lives.”
The police spokesperson stated that all security forces, including the army, have intensified patrols in the affected communities, deploying additional personnel and operational resources to restore order and prevent further attacks.
