CPJ Documents Palestinian Journalists’ Torture, Abuse in Zionist Prisons

Around fifty Palestinian journalists detained in Zionist occupation prisons between October 2023 and January 2026 reported enduring degrading treatment, including physical abuse and medical neglect, according to a report released Thursday by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

In total, 58 interviewees reported having been subjected to “torture, ill-treatment or other forms of violence,” the New York-based NGO said in a press release.

The journalists described “psychological threats, being held for prolonged periods in painful positions, continuous exposure to loud noises (music, braking, bomb sounds…), beatings and sexual violence.” Some also reported “unsanitary living conditions, food deprivation (resulting in an average weight loss of 23.5 kg), and medical neglect.” CPJ’s CEO Jodie Ginsberg highlighted “the scale and consistency of these testimonies,” while calling on the international community to “take action.” The report further documented the detention of at least 94 Palestinian journalists and media workers between October 2023 and January 2026.

The NGO concluded that as of 19 February, thirty journalists remain behind bars.
