Algerian Army Thwarts Attempts to Introduce Over 4.5 Quintals of Cannabis Resin via Morocco

Attempts to introduce over 4.5 quintals of cannabis resin via the borders with Morocco have been foiled and nearly 1.4 million psychotropic tablets have been seized, during operations carried out by combined detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA), in coordination with the various security services, during the period from 11 to 17 February, PNA said Wednesday in an operational report.
“As part of sustained efforts in the fight against terrorism and against multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the PNA carried out, during the period from 11 to 17 February 2026, several operations that have resulted in quality outcomes that reflect the high professionalism, vigilance, and permanent readiness of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory,” said the same source.
As part of efforts to combat organized crime, and building on sustained operations to stem drug trafficking across the country, ”joint PNA detachments working in coordination with various security services intercepted 43 drug traffickers during operations conducted throughout the Military Regions and thwarted attempts to introduce 458 kilograms of processed cannabis resin across the Moroccan border. The operations also yielded seizures of 23.32 kilograms of cocaine and 1,395,543 psychotropic pills,” added the source. “
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet, PNA detachments arrested 274 individuals and confiscated 38 vehicles, 312 generators, 195 jackhammers, and 13 metal detectors, along with quantities of unrefined gold mixed with rock and equipment used in illegal artisanal gold mining,” said the report. In separate operations, “16 other individuals were also apprehended, with seizures including 3 hunting rifles, 43,865 liters of fuel, and 55.2 tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling,” according to the source. Furthermore, “340 undocumented migrants of various nationalities were arrested across the country,” according to the PNA’s operational report.”
