Algerian Civil Protection Ranks Tenth Globally, Study Shows

A recent international study has ranked the Algerian Civil Protection tenth globally among the top civil defense agencies, cited for its high level of preparedness and capacity to manage major disasters. Notably, it is the only African body to secure a place among the top 30 worldwide.

This global ranking of civil defense agencies is part of a study conducted by Harvard University, authored by American experts Alfred Maxim and Gianna Thompson, and published on the “Posp” website, a newspaper specializing in political and security news and analysis.

“The study was based on a set of criteria, including the number of announced interventions annually, the number of civil protection personnel relative to the population, experience in large-scale operations, the size of the country’s territory and its geographical reach, and participation in relief operations outside the country’s territory,” said the source.

The list included the Civil Protection Agency of the United States in first place globally, and among the top ten were the civil protection agencies of Japan, Germany, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, Canada, and France.

“Today, the Algerian Civil Protection conducts an operational exercise almost every month to simulate natural and industrial disasters. Colonel Boughelouf mandated that smaller Civil Protection units deployed throughout Algeria conduct small-scale operational exercises to address forest fires, maritime disasters, building fires, factory fires, floods, flash floods, and earthquakes, all aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of the Algerian Civil Protection,” wrote the newspaper.
