Opening of Africa–Italy Summit with Participation of Algeria’s PM, Representing President Tebboune

The proceedings of the Africa–Italy Summit opened on Friday afternoon in Addis Ababa, with the participation of the Algerian Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

This event, which coincides with the 39th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), is holding its second edition, following the one organized in Rome in 2024.

The Africa–Italy Summit aims to strengthen partnerships and to assess the achievements of the past two years within the framework of the “Mattei Plan for Africa,” as well as to define future priorities.

In addition, participants will review opportunities to diversify the sectors likely to give rise to long-term joint projects at the level of the African continent.

At the end of January, the Italian government indicated that the proceedings of this summit would focus on issues of sustainable development, infrastructure, energy, education, training, health, and agriculture, in line with the “Mattei Plan for Africa.”

During his participation in the first summit held in Rome in 2024, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, highlighted the actions undertaken by Algeria to materialize partnerships capable of strengthening energy security and energy transition in Africa and in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Attaf also stressed the importance of mobilizing financing, technology transfer, capacity building, and technical assistance, according to an approach promoting a sustainable, effective, and efficient energy partnership.
