Algeria, Mauritania Begin First Session of Joint Bilateral Parliamentary Commission in Algiers

Work has begun on the first session of the Algeria-Mauritania Joint Parliamentary Commission in Algiers.
The two-day session, held under the theme “Promoting the parliamentary role in strengthening Algeria-Mauritania economic cooperation: towards an integrated and sustainable partnership,” is being co-presided over by the speaker of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly, Brahim Boughali, and his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Bamba Meguett, in the presence of officials including the secretary of state responsible for African affairs and representatives of economic sectors and relevant institutions.
The meeting comes amid “growing momentum” in relations between Algeria and Mauritania, reflecting the shared political will of the two countries’ leaders to deepen consultation and coordination, bolster ties of fraternity and complementarity between the two brotherly peoples, the statement said.
Over four working sessions, participants will discuss topics tied to bilateral cooperation, its fields and future prospects, demonstrating “the commitment of both countries to strengthen channels of consultation in service of common interests and support the bilateral partnership process.”
The agenda will include discussions on strengthening cooperation in economic, commercial and investment areas, and developing exchanges between the two countries. Delegates will also explore ways to promote parliamentary coordination and the exchange of expertise in legislation and oversight, and unify positions on regional and international issues of common interest.
