AU Executive Council Commends Algeria’s Efforts in Support of the Continent

The Executive Council of the African Union (AU) on Thursday commended Algeria’s efforts in support of the African continent at the conclusion of its 48th ordinary session in Addis Ababa.
The council adopted a report on the activities of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), congratulating Algeria for hosting last November the first African ministerial conference on local production of medicines and other health technologies.
It also praised Algeria’s leading role in strengthening the pharmaceutical industry and the measures taken by the government to support domestic drug manufacturing.
The Executive Council further commended Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for organizing the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), highlighting the high-level participation recorded at the continental event.
It also welcomed Algeria’s efforts in successfully hosting the African Creative Days (CANEX) and progress made toward establishing the Grand Museum of Africa in Algiers. In this regard, the council invited member states to continue supporting the project, which is part of the AU’s Agenda 2063.
The council additionally praised Algeria’s role in promoting youth development and empowerment.
During a closed session, AU foreign ministers adopted decisions and recommendations to be submitted to the 39th ordinary summit scheduled for the coming weekend.
In his closing remarks, Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio, who chaired the session, called for collective African action to address the challenges facing the continent. He highlighted the “political maturity” that marked the meeting, reflecting the political will to strengthen cooperation and tackle shared challenges.
He also urged member states to implement the adopted decisions to ensure the credibility of the African organization.
