Trump: Xi Jinping to Visit White House Later This Year

US President Donald Trump said he plans to host Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House toward the end of this year, signaling a potential reset in relations between the world’s two largest economies after years of trade tensions. Trump made the remarks in an interview with NBC News, recorded on the same day he held a wide-ranging conversation with Xi.
The US president is expected to visit China in April, ahead of Xi’s visit to the United States. “He’s coming to the White House, yeah — toward the end of the year,” Trump said, adding that “these are the two most powerful countries in the world and we have a very good relationship,” AFP reported.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has implemented a series of tariffs targeting sectors including steel and automobiles, while also negotiating broader measures to advance US policy goals. Despite ongoing efforts to reduce dependence on Chinese manufacturing, the US and China remain deeply interconnected economically, following a broad truce reached after major trade escalations last spring.
