The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, emphasized Wednesday in Algiers that modernizing the consular apparatus is no longer merely a technical choice, but a “pressing need and an inevitable requirement” to enable the state to effectively protect the interests of the national community abroad.
Speaking during the closing session of the three-day Conference of Heads of Consular Posts at the ministry’s headquarters, Attaf underscored the importance of holding such conferences regularly to evaluate, refine, and renew the performance of the consular apparatus.
Attaf noted that this latest edition of the conference reflects the “strategic direction set by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, regarding the pivotal role of the national community in the country’s foreign policy.” The Minister of State elaborated on the necessity of continuous modernization to ensure the “most effective, fastest, and optimal response” to the aspirations of Algerian citizens overseas.
“There is no doubt that the greatest challenge and the highest priority today lies in modernizing our country’s consular apparatus,” he stated. He explained that modernization is the most effective solution to the pressures experienced by various consular posts and remains a “fundamental tool for improving service quality and strengthening trust between the administration and the national community.” In this regard, he called for the mobilization of all resources to establish a consular administration that is “more efficient, more transparent, and more responsive.” The conference, attended by 43 heads of consular posts, was marked by extensive discussions and practical outcomes. Attaf commended the “richness” of a program that covered all aspects of consular work and its essential role in serving the Algerian diaspora.
