Most EU Countries Reject US Invitation to Join Gaza ‘Board of Peace’

Most European Union member states have declined an invitation from the United States to join a proposed “Board of Peace” for Gaza, amid concerns that the initiative could undermine the role of the United Nations in resolving global conflicts. According to the Financial Times, European officials fear the US-led proposal is designed to sideline the UN as the primary international forum for conflict resolution.
The report cited people familiar with the matter as saying that several EU capitals are wary of endorsing a mechanism that operates outside established multilateral frameworks. For many European governments, preserving the centrality of international law and UN-backed processes remains a key priority.
Japan has said it is reviewing the details of the US proposal before taking a position, while other countries have already accepted the invitation to participate. The differing responses underscore broader geopolitical rifts over how the Gaza conflict should be managed and which international bodies should lead efforts toward a political settlement.
