Vance: Greenland Is Central to Global Missile Defense and World Security

US Vice President JD Vance said Greenland plays a critical role in global security, arguing that the island is indispensable to the United States’ missile defense architecture. Speaking on the issue, Vance stated that “the entire missile defense infrastructure is partially dependent on Greenland,” describing its strategic importance as extending beyond Washington to the security of the wider world.

Vance framed US territorial claims and heightened interest in Greenland as a matter of “world security,” stressing that the island’s geographic position makes it vital for early-warning systems and broader defense planning. According to the vice president, Greenland is “critical, not just to our national security, but to the world’s national security,” underscoring its role in monitoring and countering potential missile threats.

He also emphasized President Donald Trump’s determination to protect US interests, saying the president is “very clearly” committed to ensuring American security objectives are met. Vance added that Trump is prepared to go “as far as he has to” to achieve those goals, even if that stance puts the United States at odds with some NATO allies.
