Japan: Several Injured After 6.4-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Western Region

Several people were injured following a 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Shimane Prefecture in western Japan on Tuesday, local media reported.

Four residents from Matsue city, Shimane, were hospitalized after sustaining injuries from falls and other incidents caused by the quake. The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation reported damage to the roofs of multiple homes.

In neighboring Tottori Prefecture, authorities in Sakaiminato city received reports of road cracks, while in Fukuyama city, Hiroshima Prefecture, two people were injured.

The Japan Meteorological Agency also recorded prolonged seismic activity reaching level four in western Tottori Prefecture. Such long-duration tremors involve strong, slow, and extended seismic waves from major earthquakes, which may cause high-rise buildings, especially upper floors, to sway.
