Sudan: African Union Condemns Deadly Drone Attack on UN Peacekeepers in Kadugli

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has strongly condemned the deadly drone attack targeting the logistics base of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in Kadugli, Sudan, the Commission said in a statement on Sunday. The attack resulted in fatalities and injuries among Bangladeshi peacekeeping personnel deployed as part of the UN mission.
Youssouf described the strike as a grave violation of international humanitarian law and a direct blow to ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in Sudan. He stressed that attacks against United Nations peacekeepers are unacceptable and pose a serious threat to regional and international peace and security, underscoring that such acts will not deter the African Union and its partners from their commitment to supporting peacekeeping operations and protecting civilians.
The AU Commission Chairperson called for the swift identification and prosecution of those responsible and urged all parties to the conflict to comply with their obligations under international law, particularly the protection of peacekeepers and humanitarian personnel. He also expressed the African Union’s full solidarity with the affected peacekeeping personnel and the troop-contributing countries.
