Outcomes of the Algerian Cabinet Meeting

The Algerian President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Minister of Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired on Sunday a Cabinet meeting, during which presentations were discussed concerning an increase in retirement pensions and allowances, the creation of two new administrative districts, and the national strategy for developing e-commerce.

After the presentation of the agenda and a summary of the decisions taken at the previous Cabinet meeting, followed by the Prime Minister’s briefing on government activity over the past two weeks, the Algerian President issued the following orders, instructions, and directives:

Regarding the presentation on increasing retirement pensions and allowances:

The Cabinet approved a 10 percent increase for retirees receiving 20,000 dinars or less, and a 5 percent increase for retirees receiving more than 20,000 dinars. It is worth noting that these increases follow earlier adjustments that affected the guaranteed minimum wage.

Regarding the presentation on the creation of two new administrative districts:

The Cabinet approved the creation of two new administrative districts. This concerns both Maghnia and El Eulma.

Regarding the national strategy for developing e-commerce:

The Algerian President emphasized that e-commerce is a major challenge that requires everyone’s participation to achieve this economic goal, using the necessary means—particularly ensuring digital security, providing additional facilitation measures, and promoting trade in this direction.

Moreover, commercial transparency is the foremost objective and the real benefit of digitalization and trade.

General Directives:

Prohibit the demolition of illegal housing during the winter, with the immediate suspension of any mayors who carry out such arbitrary actions in the middle of winter, without regard for applicable Algerian laws and international norms. Walis of the Republic are to ensure that such operations are carried out strictly in accordance with the established legal frameworks.

The Ministers of Agriculture and Interior were ordered to coordinate and ensure, through the various necessary mechanisms and procedures, that farmers do not incur losses resulting from the oversupply of certain agricultural crops, by resorting to targeted storage to maintain price stability.
