The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held discussions on Wednesday in Athens with the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, as part of his official visit to Greece, the ministry said in a statement.
On this occasion, the two ministers expressed their pride in the historic relations between the two countries, founded on “the values of solidarity, trust and friendship,” the statement noted.
Both sides welcomed the level of Algerian-Greek cooperation in the energy sector, with Attaf reaffirming “Algeria’s commitment to remain a reliable and stable partner for Greece as well as for the entire European continent in this vital sector.”
In the same context, the two ministers welcomed the expansion of cooperation to include new sectors such as maritime industries, health, innovation and start-ups.
They also agreed to hold the third session of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission early next year in Algiers.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two ministers expressed satisfaction with the results achieved by both countries during their mandate at the UN Security Council, stressing “the need to strengthen their joint efforts to more effectively address the challenges facing the Mediterranean region.”
The talks allowed both parties to exchange views on developments related to the Palestinian question, Western Sahara, the Libyan crisis, and the situation in the Sahel-Saharan region, the ministry statement added.
