El Djeich magazine stresses in its December issue that the national memory and glorious history of Algeria is a red line that admits neither compromise nor the slightest attempt at denigration, distortion, or questioning, emphasizing that their safeguarding is a sacred duty and a national responsibility.
In its “highlight” article titled “Our History is greater than Their falsifications,” the magazine asserts that “Preserving the most precious legacy left by our illustrious ancestors and safeguarding their sacred trust requires an eternal connection to our glorious history and our authentic memory, which is the pulse of our land and the artery that nourishes its present and future, it is the guiding light for successive generations as they forge paths toward building a strong, secure, and prosperous homeland, drawing inspiration from the rich values of our illustrious ancestors. Values imbued with the highest meanings of loyalty, devotion, heroism, and sacrifice.”
El Djeich laments that, “at a time when we are most in need of this, some pretentious pedant appear from time to time, falsely allege and slanderously claim that they have mastered the intricacies of history and the landmarks of geography, to slander our glorious history and attack our national symbols. Some consider this, despite their ignorance of what is schemed against our country as a freedom of expression and opinion.”
It recalls, in this regard, that “difference of opinion may be of benefit but on the condition of being constructive that we keep our opinions and debates under the umbrella of the homeland and its supreme interests, and with respect to our history, memory, constants and sacred values, and within the spirit of union and never division. As misrepresentation and questioning of memory, history, identity, references and symbols, under the pretext of freedom of expression, is an excuse worse than the crime, and a blatant transgression against our illustrous past, whose glory was made by men who preferred to sacrifice everything precious and valuable so that we might live free and masters on our land.”
“Algeria’s history is replete with immortal milestones that forged our country’s glory and pride, these chapters were written by its loyal and dedicated patriotic men and women who preserved its honour and dignity, offering their most precious possessions for the sake of the homeland. Throughout this long and eventful journey, Algeria, in every era of its rich history, preserves the names of heroes who bore the cost beyond measures, setting the most magnificent examples of courage, sacrifice and selflessness, especially during the period of brutal occupation, who attempted to obliterate our national identity and our cultural and civilisational foundations, during which our country witnessed resistance after resistance in the struggle to reclaim its usurped land and stolen freedom.”
“In defence of those constituents and from the accumulation of these experiences,” El Djeich added, “the National Liberation Army emerged from the heart of the Algerian people, waging a great revolution as great as its purpose and as noble as its objective: liberation from the shackles of slavery, tyranny, and humiliation. This revolution rallied all honourable citizens around the project of restoring sovereignty and building an independent Algeria, which will forever remain linked to the glorious values of November and the noble character of its virtuous and loyal men, who will remain immortal in the memory of our country and that of the successive generations throughout the ages. Their names etched in the annals of our history, stand as a crown upon our heads, a history that will forever remain greater than all doubters, detractors and truthtwisters.”
“Our history is not merely tales told by storytellers in the marketplaces for a handful of coins, nor riddles sung by grandmothers to their grandchildren before bedtime, nor a commodity bought and sold by merchants concerned only with profit, just as some do at the present. Rather, our history is a luminous and enduring series of events that forged our land’s glory and its timeless pride. Only those truly qualified should delve into it, and it should not be recounted by just anyone, driven by whims and ulterior mischievous motives,” the magazine read.
It added: “Our national memory and glorious history are a red line that does not accept any compromise, or any attempts of distortion, falsification, and questioning. As it is the safety valve of the homeland, preserving it is a cause of existence, a sacred duty and a national responsibility stemming from the loyalty of future generations to our predecessors.”
The magazine further assures that “Undoubtedly, all these vain attempts are nothing more than a crippled stumbling mount ridden by the spiteful, the opportunists and their minions in hopes that they might carve out a place in history for their vile selves, after the resilient Algeria has cast them out and the proud Algerian people have utterly scorned them. Their trivialities and schemes will only increase our people’s pride in their great history and their reverence for their glorious symbols and their connection to their national memory and the struggle waged by successive generations in defence of their freedom, land and sovereignty.”
“As in every stage of their struggle, they have adopted unity and cohesion as a firm principle, thus strengthening the harmony of our social fabric. A connection that will always remain the sustenance that helps us face all challenges and continue Algeria’s journey with hope, optimism and ambition. An Algeria firmly attached to its authentic historical, geographical, and cultural dimensions, being the source of its unity, which no one is allowed to transgress, and the compass guiding its triumphant march toward the path of development, prosperity and victory,” El Djeich concluded its column.
