Writers, Athletes Call for Marwan Barghouti’s Release

In an open letter, more than 200 celebrities from the worlds of culture and sport on Wednesday called for the release of Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti, imprisoned by the Zionist entity since 2002.

Marwan Barghouti is nicknamed the “Palestinian Mandela” by his supporters. The open letter brings together movie stars and musicians. Bestselling authors Sally Rooney and Margaret Atwood also expressed their support, as well as former soccer players Eric Cantona and Gary Lineker.

“We express our deep concern over Marwan Barghouti’s continued detention, mistreatment, and denial of his legal rights in prison,” wrote the celebrities, calling on “the United Nations (UN) and governments around the world to actively work” for his release.

This initiative is part of the international “Free Marwan” campaign launched by his family. Most of the signatories have already spoken out publicly to call for an end to the Zionist aggression in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian leader was sentenced to five life sentences by a Zionist court, which convicted him after the second intifada between 2000 and 2005.

The Zionist entity refused to release him as part of the prisoner exchanges that have been taking place since the beginning of the Zionist aggression against Gaza.
