Malaysia Floods Displace Nearly 14,000 People Across Seven States

The number of people affected by widespread flooding across Malaysia has risen to 13,782 as of 4 p.m. on November 24, according to state news agency Bernama, citing the latest update from the Social Welfare Department’s Disaster Info portal. Seven states have been impacted, with Kelantan remaining the worst hit.
Kelantan alone accounts for 9,634 displaced residents currently housed in 38 temporary relief centres (PPS). The most affected districts include Tumpat, Bachok, Kota Bharu, and Pasir Puteh. Although the Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department reported that the situation is under control, authorities continue to maintain close monitoring amid forecasts of persistent rainfall.
Perak is the second-most affected state, with 1,415 people taking refuge in 20 PPS across Perak Tengah, Manjung, Larut, Matang, Selama, and Hilir Perak. Terengganu has recorded 205 evacuees with one PPS operational in Besut, while Kedah has 371 people in eight centres.
Penang has reported 404 evacuees across four PPS in Seberang Perai Utara and Seberang Perai Tengah, and Selangor has 327 people from 109 families taking shelter in eight centres. Perlis has also been significantly impacted, with 1,426 people affected by flooding.
Authorities have urged residents in high-risk zones to comply with evacuation orders and avoid rivers or areas vulnerable to sudden flooding. The National Disaster Management Agency advised the public to stay informed about weather updates and river water levels, prepare essential supplies, and prioritize family safety if evacuation becomes necessary.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department had earlier issued a severe continuous rain warning for several areas across the East Coast and northern Peninsular Malaysia, with heavy rainfall expected to persist throughout the week.
