African Development Bank Group Expresses Interest in Supporting Algeria’s Railway Projects

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, received on Monday the President of the African Development Bank Group, Sidi Ould Tah, where they discussed key ongoing railway projects.

The meeting was held in the presence of senior ministry officials and representatives of the African Development Bank.

During the meeting, the discussions focused on key ongoing railway projects, including the North–South linkage project. The talks also highlighted the importance of the African Development Bank’s contribution to financing sections of the project through bank loans, and supporting the sector’s capacities in the field of basic infrastructure, the Algerian Ministry of Public Works said in a statement.

Following this meeting, an expanded working session was held with the participation of executives from the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring the Implementation of Railway Investments. During the session, the national railway program for the short and medium term was presented, along with the sector’s future development prospects, the statement said.

In this regard, the Algerian Minister emphasized the economic and social importance of railway projects, noting the extensive expertise that Algerian professionals possess in implementing major infrastructure projects.

For his part, the President of the African Development Bank Group expressed the Group’s interest in the Algerian experience in carrying out railway projects, affirming his institution’s willingness to contribute to the implementation of future projects in this field.
