Football/CAN 2025: Algeria Steps up Training for Saudi Arabia Friendly

Algeria’s national football team continues trainings for the second friendly against Saudi Arabia, scheduled for Tuesday at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium (17:30), as part of preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN-2025) (21 December- 18 January 2026), the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced on its official website.
On Sunday evening, Riyad Mahrez and his team-mates held a training session focused on technical and tactical drills, without Hicham Boudaoui and Mohamed Amine Amoura, who were released by the national coach due to injury, as well as central defender Eliyas Benkara, who is suffering from flu-like symptoms, the FAF said.
In the opening friendly, Algeria beat Zimbabwe 3-1, with goals from Bounedjah (14′), Amoura (41′) and Hadjam (45’+1).
National coach Vladimir Petkovic is placing considerable importance on this second friendly against Saudi Arabia, which recently defeated reigning African champion Ivory Coast 1-0 in Jeddah under the supervision of coach Hervé Renard.
Algeria qualified for the 2026 World Cup last October following victories against Somalia (3-0) and Uganda (2-1).
