African Development Bank Affirms Readiness to Support Algeria in Financing Its Strategic Projects

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received on Monday the President of the African Development Bank Group, Sidi Ould Tah, and his accompanying delegation, where they discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and the African Development Bank Group.

The meeting was held in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, and a number of senior ministry officials.

On this occasion, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and the African Development Bank Group, particularly in priority areas such as the development of the oil and gas industries, the valorization and processing of mineral resources, and desalination projects, in addition to financing and supporting structural projects with a continental scope.

During the talks, Arkab presented the development programs overseen by the sector, particularly in the areas of hydrocarbon development and processing, the valorization of mineral resources, and the manufacturing industry in general, as well as major projects in the exploitation and processing of phosphate, in addition to Algeria’s efforts to strengthen its capabilities in the field of seawater desalination, the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines said in a statement.

The Minister reaffirmed Algeria’s steadfast commitment to strengthening African-to-African cooperation in sustainable energy, as well as enhancing production capacities and regional interconnections, all in support of the continent’s development, the statement said.

In this context, Arkab renewed Algeria’s readiness to share its expertise in the fields of hydrocarbon exploration and processing, and to generalize the Algerian experience related to the distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the continental level, as well as in geological studies and formations, and the management of major projects. He emphasized the importance of strengthening technical cooperation and exchanging experiences between Algeria and the African Development Bank, with the aim of supporting the implementation of major energy and mining projects with the necessary efficiency and effectiveness, the source added.

For his part, Sidi Ould Tah expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s developmental vision under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, praising the progress Algeria has achieved in many economic and social fields, as well as its pivotal regional role on the African continent.

The President of the African Development Bank Group also reaffirmed the Bank’s readiness to support Algeria in financing and accompanying its strategic projects, praising the promising Algerian experience in hydrocarbon exploitation and processing, seawater desalination, and infrastructure development. He emphasized the Bank’s desire to transfer this experience to other countries on the continent and to work on the exploitation and valorization of strategic and critical minerals at both the local and continental levels, according to the statement.

Ould Tah also reiterated his group’s pride in the strong support that Algeria provides to the African Development Bank, affirming his commitment to deepening the bilateral partnership and supporting all initiatives that would strengthen economic integration and joint development on the African continent.
