Algeria, Hungary Sign Cooperation Agreement to Strengthen Scientific Research

The Algerian Academy of Sciences and Technologies (AAST) signed a cooperation agreement in Budapest with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) to strengthen scientific collaboration between the two countries in the field of biological research and to contribute to solutions for shared challenges, according to a statement from the AAST on Thursday.

The agreement was signed on 4 November 2025 in the presence of the AAST President, Prof. Mohamed Hichem Kara, the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Tamas Freund, and the Algerian Ambassador to Hungary, Adel Talbi.

The partnership aims to strengthen scientific cooperation in biological research and contribute to providing scientific solutions to common global problems.

The agreement covers priority and emerging scientific sectors such as nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), water resource development and management, earth and space sciences, agriculture, and fisheries.

It also includes fields such as environment and sustainable development, microelectronics and embedded systems, biotechnology, life and natural sciences, mathematics, physics, chemistry, energy and renewable energies, mining, architecture, urban planning, and smart cities.

Furthermore, the agreement provides for the implementation of concrete cooperation programs, including the co-financing of research centers, support for the development of postdoctoral scholarship programs in areas of common interest, the organization of joint scientific workshops and conferences, and the exchange of scientific and technical information between the two institutions.

The AAST stated that the agreement represents a new step in the development of scientific cooperation between the two academies and strengthens Algeria’s presence in international research networks.
