Nearly 180,000 People Trapped by RSF in Sudan’s El‑Fasher (Doctors’ Union)

The Sudan Doctors’ Union reported that at least 177,000 civilians are trapped in the city of El‑Fasher, capital of North Darfur, amid violent attacks by the RSF (Rapid Support Forces) in conflict with the Sudanese army.

“Innocent people have been executed by being burned alive, while 177,000 civilians remain trapped, most of them likely victims of massacres,” the union said in a statement on Thursday.

The same source stated that “the RSF have committed a horrific massacre against unarmed civilians based on their ethnic affiliation, as part of a crime of ethnic cleansing”, noting that its field team reports estimate “the number of victims at several thousands, in a context of serious communication and security breakdown”.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), more than 36,000 people fled El‑Fasher between Oct 26 and Oct 29, including nearly 28,000 over the past 48 hours.

The conflict, ongoing since April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the RSF, has caused more than 20,000 deaths and displaced around 15 million people, according to United Nations and local authority estimates.
