Kremlin: Much Preparation Needed Before Putin-Trump Summit

The Kremlin stated that considerable preparatory work remains before the anticipated meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, emphasizing that full-scale preparations for the next Russia–US summit have not yet begun. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that comprehensive work in this direction is only now starting, noting that Moscow hopes the summit will provide an opportunity to make progress toward a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.
Peskov underscored that Russia’s position on the Ukrainian settlement remains consistent and well known, contrasting it with what he described as the “contradictory” stance of Kiev, which, he said, does not contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. He added that Moscow continues to advocate for halting the conflict along the front line—an issue that has been repeatedly raised in Moscow–Washington contacts.
Regarding the details of the summit, Peskov mentioned that Putin’s and Trump’s good relations with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán contributed to an understanding on the summit’s location. However, he clarified that there are still no details about the potential participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Moscow, he concluded, believes the upcoming meeting should serve as a platform to discuss bilateral Russia–US relations alongside efforts to end the conflict.
