Algeria, Spain Step Up Security Coordination in Madrid Talks

Algeria and Spain have agreed to strengthen their security coordination during a meeting of their Joint Security Commission held Wednesday in Madrid, the Algerian Interior Ministry said.

The session focused on boosting cooperation in counterterrorism and the fight against organized crime, in line with a bilateral security agreement signed in 2008 between the two countries.

Talks were co-chaired by senior officials from both interior ministries, with representatives of various security agencies in attendance.

According to the statement, discussions covered training programs, exchange of expertise, and methods to combat document fraud and other forms of transnational crime.

The two sides also examined security measures to curb illegal migration, particularly the connections between smuggling and human trafficking networks and other criminal groups.

The meeting reflects a shared commitment by Algiers and Madrid to maintain high-level consultation on regional security and to address common challenges in the Mediterranean and Sahel regions.
