Russia-Iran Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty Enters into Force

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Moscow and Tehran has officially entered into force.

The treaty, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Moscow on January 17, 2025, took effect on October 2, according to a ministry statement cited by TASS. The agreement, described as a strategic milestone, reflects the commitment of both countries to strengthen their partnership in line with core national interests.

According to the statement, Russian-Iranian relations have now entered a new phase of broad strategic cooperation. The treaty sets out key benchmarks for long-term collaboration in priority sectors and envisions closer coordination on the global stage. It also emphasizes joint efforts to promote regional stability and security while addressing common challenges amid a shifting multipolar world order.
